Spawn: Todd McFarlane Says Filmgoers Will Go ‘Wow’ Looking At New Suit

There’s already a lot of hype surrounding Todd McFarlane’s upcoming Spawn movie. It’s already confirmed that Jamie Foxx has been cast as the titular antihero, Al Simmons/Spawn, and Jeremy Renner as the fan-favorite detective Twitch Williams in the new film.

Another exciting piece of news about the Spawn movie surfaced earlier this week when it was announced that legendary special effects artist Greg Nicotero has been roped in to work on the movie. Earlier in June, Pursue News had reported on the news.

Nicotero also worked on the suit and effects in the original Spawn film more than twenty years ago.

While fans are expecting the new suit to get a similar look as Michael Jai White’s from the 1997 film or the original comic book version of the character, McFarlane has confirmed that Spawn won’t be wearing a suit that everyone is used to seeing.

During an interview with ComicBook.com, when McFarlane was asked what fans should expect from the suit, he said that the cahracter will definitely be getting a dark mask and a cape, but the suit will be different then what fans have seen in the previous movie.

Does Spawn have a dark mask and his body dark and then does he have a cape in the comic books? Yes, yes, yes. Will he have all of that in the movie? Yes, yes, yes,” McFarlane said. “So it’s not like I’m going to give him wings instead of a cape and I’m not going to give him no mask instead of a mask. There’s not going to be any of that. It just won’t be exactly what a hardcore fan is used to.”

But I’m hoping that people who just go and are familiar with Spawn will say, ‘Yeah, it’s in the box,’” the Spawn director added. “And people who know nothing about Spawn will go, ‘Wow, that’s cool.’ And I have to design for filmgoers not for comic book fans because the filmgoers are going to be bigger than the pool of the comic book fans.”

Spawn Movie is expected to go into production in January 2019. The film’s shooting will take place in Toronto. The film does not have a release date attached yet.
