DC fans respond to Dua Lipa rumored for DCEU’s Zatanna role

The rumor mill is on again for DCEU’s Zatanna film role and a new report suggests singer Dua Lipa is engaged in discussions with Warner Bros. to play the Mistress of Magic. DC fans are sounding off their opinions and some are already sold on the idea after a fanart of the artist showed Lipa donning the magician hat. The standalone feature is in development with Academy Award winner Emerald Fennell penning the script.

An announcement on the Zatanna fan page shared a screenshot of an email suggesting Dua Lipa is in talks with the studio. The rumor was first brought to attention by DEUXMOI, a portal known for publishing rumors. Reactions, in general, are largely in support of seeing Lipa play the DC role though fans are cautioned to take this rumor with a big grain of salt.

Zatanna is among the few DC titles that fans are expecting to be a part of Warner Bros. 90-minute Hall-H panel at SDCC 2022. Though fans’ high hopes aside, the Zatanna film has been in the works for quite some time with J.J. Abrams‘s Bad Robot producing the DC film as part of their deal with WarnerMedia.

Zatanna Zatara was created by Gardner Fox and Murphy Anderson for in DC Comics’ Hawkman #4 in 1964. The Sorceress Supreme appeared on The Batman Animated series in 1993 and later multiple appearances in the fan-acclaimed Justice League Unlimited series. Recently, the character got a new adaptation in the Justice League Dark movie, which was well-received.

Dua Lipa will make her acting debut alongside Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill in Don’t Start Now directed by Matthew Vaughn. Not much is known about the Apple+ movie but a first-look image showed the singer cum newcomer actor cozy with Cavill.

Zatanna does not have a release date attached yet.
