RUMOR: The Last Key’s Success Gives Way For Insidious 5, Unlikely To Be Another Prequel

It seems after the success of Insidious: The Last Key, the door to a potential sequel film, Insidious 5, has finally opened. The last entry in the supernatural horror film franchise, Insidious: The Last Key scored big at the box office and become the most successful chapter in the saga. The film grossed around $164 million worldwide, against a production budget of $10 million, which is definitely impressive. But the film received mixed reviews from critics.

Notably, the third and fourth Insidious movies were prequels to the original film. In case of Insidious: Chapter 3, the events of the film took place before the first film. The Last Chapter followed Chapter 3, yet still occurred before the original film. Both the films focused on the back-story of parapsychologist Dr. Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) – a character who actually died in the first Insidious.

However, the next installment, possibly dubbed as Insidious 5, will likely avoid the prequel trope and be set after the events of the first two films, reported Bloody Disgusting. More details about the upcoming film have been kept under wraps for now, including whether Insidious series writer Leigh Whannell will return to write the fifth installment of the franchise and/or Shaye will reprise her role in the next film.

Fans are advised to take the news with a grain of salt till confirmation. but it’s exciting to hear that the studio could be working another Insidious film that won’t revolve around characters’ past.

Insidious: The Last Key was directed by directed by Adam Robitel, but it’s unclear at this time if he’ll be back for another go or if a new director will be roped in. There’s currently no word on a possible release date just yet.

Insidious: The Last Key will be rolled out on Digital HD on March 20th before expanding to Blu-ray and DVD on April 3rd.

Pursue News will bring you more details on Insidious 5 as they become available.
