Sony Pictures offered a brand new glimpse at its upcoming Spider-Man spin-off film, Venom, exclusively for the San Diego Comic-Con 2018 attendees. Now, as per a new report coming from Trailer Track, the film studio is likely to release a new Venom trailer online soon.
It was rumored that the new Venom trailer would debut alongside Mission: Impossible – Fallout this week. But Trailer Track has confirmed that the trailer won’t be in cinemas with Mission: Impossible – Fallout, instead fans will likely have to wait for a few weeks to get a fresh glimpse of the iconic Symbiote alien.
During the Sony Pictures SDCC panel, actor Tom Hardy said that the upcoming film will stick closely to the storyline in the Lethal Protector comics.
“[Eddie] is an anti-hero, so he’ll figure on a goal, and he’ll do whatever he has to do to get to that goal,” Hardy said.
The film’s story will follow a journalist named Eddie Brock who gets infected with an alien symbiote that transforms him into the anti-hero. Riot (Riz Ahmed) will serve as the film’s lead villain.
While the film is still a couple of months away from release, director Ruben Fleischer has already teased about his plans for a sequel, should the film prove successful.
During an interview with ComicBook.com during SDCC, Fleischer revealed that Venom does lay the groundwork for a potential sequel.
“We’ve definitely laid some groundwork for different directions that the franchise could go but obviously it all hinges on people’s excitement about this film,” the Venom director said. “I hope people will stay and see what seeds have been planted.”
Fleischer’s statement also hints that Venom will have a post-credits scene which will give some idea about the next film. It will be interesting to see how seeds will be planted for potential sequels.
Venom is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Oct. 5, 2018.
